Now I Feel Silly...

Ok, so I hope my last post didn't make me sound crazy. I hope I didn't make anybody think that I am against vegetarianism. I just wanted to express my feelings against vegetarians or vegans saying that it is wrong to eat meat.

Ok, I feel better now.

No, you are not crazy.....you are right! I went and read some of the stuff from Elisse's post (the thing was freakin' long), and was so upset by many of the statements that were made. The ones about what "real" carnivores teeth are like. I was like, hello, we are omnivores, we eat both plants and meat. That's why our digestive systems are different, and our teeth are different! I became very frustrated reading all of that crap! Anyway, I enjoyed your post. I just wanted to add to it that there are many health benefits associated with not drinking tea and coffee, as well as not chewing tobacco and smoking. Caffeine is known to be an artificial stimulator, smoking causes cancer and so does chew. By following the word of wisdom we are protecting our bodies. I taught a YW lesson about this once, and I went back to it because it had some good info. I thought you might like to see this.

"It is important for each person to eat a well-balanced diet. The body doesn’t function properly if any necessary nutrients are absent. Good health depends largely on the kinds of foods we eat.

Most countries have developed a system of food groups based upon the food patterns used within their country. Foods from each of these groups should be eaten every day. If your country has a good food grouping system, use it in place of the one that follows.

Foods for building bodies: meat, legumes, fish, poultry, eggs, milk.

Foods for protecting against disease: fruits and vegetables.

Foods for building energy: cereal grains and their products, such as bread, rice, or noodles.

By eating foods regularly from each of these food groups, we greatly improve the likelihood of enjoying good health."
(Lesson 38: Physical Health, Young Women Manual 2, 146)

Anyways, I thought it was a good little excerpt. It's quite a nice little debate the two of you have going. Keep it up!

Oh, thank you, Meg! We are omnivores, NOT herbivores. That's why we DO have canines. Small ones, but we do have them. That gives us a little hint as to how much meat we should be eating. Animals with big, sharp canines should be eating a ton of meat, or only meat. Animals with smaller canines should be eating a smaller amount of meat.

Yes, there are many benefits to not drinking tea and coffee, even though back in the 19th century people didn't necessarily understand the effects of caffeine yet. To me, coffee is such a slave driver. I know people who just HAVE to have their morning cuppa joe to start their day. How lame to be a slave to a substance like that, to rely on something so artificial to be able to function. There are not many good benefits to coffee that I can think of. Brett would have told me, lol, he misses his coffee so badly. But, some may argue that there is nothing in the WofW prohibiting caffeine, only coffee and tea specifically, especially when trying to rationalize drinking caffeinated sodas. I simply stay away from anything that is or can be addictive. That can include anything- chocolate, hello! All things in moderation.

I've also been taught that the hot drinks are bad for us because they essentially cook our insides on the way down. (That could mean hot chocolate, too! Better cool those down before we drink them!) Also, all these drinks and habits promote idle time. People used to (still do) get together for tea time, coffee, drinking, smoking, etc. This was idle time spent doing nothing productive, and damaging their bodies to boot!

It is sad, though, that we are missing out on some great things that certain teas can bring us. Green tea is proven to be GREAT for you. It helps with cancer and is a great antioxidant.

Sometimes I think about how certain revelations would be worded differently or given to us differently if given to us on the modern times with our understanding of science and the human body. I like to think that the WofW would be more specifically prohibiting junk food and commanding us to get exercise.

Anyway, thank you, Meg, for validating me a little bit. I forget how alike we think sometimes. I sure miss you! When are you coming out here? We need to do dinner.
